Name: Jeremy Cowart
Where do you call home? Franklin, TN
Education (degree(s): Graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Graphic Design.
Who do you live with? My wife and four children.
What's a typical day for you? Lots of emailing, haha. I have a photo studio that I drive to every day. Sometimes I’m shooting but most of the time, I’m emailing and working.
How long have you known you are living with FA? I was diagnosed two years ago.
Are there any others with FA in your family? Not that I am aware of.
Describe your transition from walking to walker/wheelchair. I can still walk and even run; I’m just slower and more off balance in general.
What do you like to do to stay active and what type of exercises work for you to stay strong? I work out 3-4 times a week at a training facility called D1 Sports Training in Franklin, TN. It is very hard and very intense, but I love it.
Do you have any hobbies or special interests? Photography, painting, disc golf, and anything with my family.
What is a good trick to make daily life easier? I don’t eat gluten, dairy or sugar! Also, I drink a ton of water.
When FA gets you down, what do you think/do to feel better? I get outside and exercise.
What is one way living with FA has POSITIVELY affected your life? It’s made me extremely grateful for the things I CAN still do physically.
What is the best advice YOU could give to a person who has been newly diagnosed with FA? I’d say to keep moving and remember it’s not going to ruin your mind or ideas but will only have a negative impact on your body.
What is the first thing you want to do when a cure/treatment to FA is found? Play basketball with my kids ☺
"I have FA but FA doesn't have me." What does this statement mean to you? How do you live your life in the face of adversity? It just means to keep moving. We have one simple choice: give up or fight. I choose to fight every day and take care of myself through exercise and clean eating.
