Karen James


April 5, 1964 – January 25, 2016

Karen was a vibrant person who didn’t let FA get the best of her. She was president of her nursing home resident council, and stayed active in her community. She passed away with family and friends by her side after a bout with pneumonia. Karen graduated from Fort Payne High School in Alabama in 1982. She graduated from Edmonson Jr. College in Chattanooga Tennessee with a paralegal degree shortly after that. She was a huge University of Alabama football fan and anyone who knew her was well aware of that fact! Karen is survived by her Son Alex James, Brother David Linebarger , Step Sister Christina Linebarger, Sister Kim Swiatek who also has FA, and her Mother Mary Sellars.

Melissa Fox


December 27, 1971 - November 19, 2015

Missy passed away November 19, 2015 at age 43. She has two perfect girls, Lillian and Misica. She always Lived her life to the fullest! Growing up there was nothing that would stop her! She will be missed by all her family but has now joined her sister Kristina, who died November 15, 1999 at the age of 21, also of Friedreich's. She was a HUGH Green Bay Packers fan, loved anything spicy and collected bells from everywhere she could. The most important part of her life was always her girls!!

Kristen Frey


1982 - August 31, 2015

Kristen Dawn "Kizzy" Frey, was born in 1982, in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of John G. Frey of Boyce, Virginia and Linda S. Bourne of Winchester. She was a graduate of Loudoun County High School and of Shenandoah University where she received a Bachelor Degree of Science in Psychology. Kristen loved music, enjoyed writing poetry and was always there to help others. She was also an ambassador for FARA (Fredreich's Ataxia Research Alliance).

Eric Christiansen

November 10, 1987 - January 4, 2014

Eric Matthew Christensen was born in Garden City, KS on November 10, 1987. He moved with his parents to Colorado in 1996.

On January 4, 2014 after a short bout with Influenza A: H1N1, he passed away … he was only 26 years old.

He had Friedreich’s Ataxia, a progressive neuromuscular disease. He continually tried to maintain as much stamina as possible with exercise, diet and physical therapy. He was frequently seen around the neighborhood on his recumbent three-wheel bike. He also improved himself intellectually through the use of his computer and helping parents and friends, as well as his keen observations of his surroundings.

Joseph Williams

March 13, 1983 – October 31, 2013

Joseph Williams, better known to his family as Joe or Joey and to his friends as “Joeski” lost his battle to Friedrich’s Ataxia on October 31, 2013 at the age of 30.

Joey was born and raised in Williamstown, New Jersey. He started out life as a normal infant, toddler and young boy. At the age of eleven, he was diagnosed with Friedrich’s Ataxia and by age sixteen, he was in a wheelchair. In spite of his diagnosis, Joey moved on and never gave up hope for a cure.
